Can you spay budgies?!?

We've had a pair of budgies for ages. We'd pretty much given up on them ever breeding... I mean, the female budgie flirts with Flambe the lorikeet, fercryingoutloud, and the male has a perverted relationship with his shiny bell that involves him sticking his head inside it and singing to the echo. They're confused.

So why have the feathery little beggars picked tonight to finally get it on!?!?

It's noisy as heck! Chirp chirp chirp RAAK RAAK RAAK chirp chirp chirp RAAK RAAK RAAK, and that was just when he was sidling up to her and 'whispering' sweet nothings into her beak. And then they decided to actually go for it, with accompanying RARGLE RARGLE RARGLE noises... but he's bigger and heavier than her, so she lost her grip on the perch and sort of swiveled around it backwards, and he fell off. Then there was ten minutes of loud CHIRP CHIRP CROODLE TWIRP CHIRP CROODLE as he followed her around the perches, trying to persuade her to let him have another go. Now they're sitting at opposite ends of the cage, bitching at each other in Budgie.

I'm trying to finish an essay here people! Get a-- get a different room!


(P.S. Yes, this is the same essay I was writing back at the beginning of this month. I have to resubmit. It's due TOMORROW. I can't concentrate because of loud budgie foreplay going on six feet away!)

Breeding in budgies is triggered by lighting. If you reduce the light, they'll get out of the mood.

I'll do it if they start up again, but sometimes we forget to uncover them in the mornings and they spend a few extra hours in the dark... so I feel sorry for them and don't cover them if I can help it. :P Silly me.

...okay, first off, you made me laugh so hard I nearly sprayed tea all over the room. Just thought I'd say. You do GREAT sound-effects! And as for 'confused', well... they've got brains the size of a couple of dried beans. Noooot really surprising.

Secondly, so far as I understand, flarecarrot has it right; toss a towel over their cage and they ought to quiet down.

Heh, glad to have amused. :D I thought they didn't have room in there for confusion! I mean, their instincts should have a budgie-shaped silhouette in there with "BONK THIS" written under it, and not much else... it takes a big brain to get inventive. :P
