melredcap: Cute chibi sketch of me by Asuka (Default)
[personal profile] melredcap
Observe! Mel is not dead! Well, you already knew that if I talk to you elsewhere, but if you only know me from reading my journal then this may be a bit of a surprise. Tadah!

Got this from ickaimp's journal (and yes, I'll learn how to do links one of these years:

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or what have you, post exactly one sentence (or more) from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favorite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

Riiiight... well, I'm not gonna put lines from the stuff-in-progress Christy and I have actually got up on our website; I'm just going to put bits from a few things that I've been working on by myself. And just like Icka, I'm not sticking to just one sentence. :D Doo dee doo...

(I should point out, most of these titles are dumb, stupid, Mel-can't-think-of-a-good-name-so-this-is-just-temporary type names.)

+++Bleach Haan+++
(Hazrat Haan dies... and then his life really goes to pot.)

Of course, just because he’d been told he had to pass on didn’t mean he was going to do it just yet. For one thing, there was no way he was going to let Fujii off the hook that easily. For another thing, he didn’t know how. Was it just a matter of time? Did he have to go somewhere in particular? Did he have to find a light to go into? Would any light do? Should he click his heels together three times and say ‘Heaven, Heaven, Heaven’? Were ruby slippers required? Did being flippant about this count as a sin even after you were dead?

+++Vampire Kaitou+++
(Kaitou Kid dies... and then his life gets better.)

“Why do you suppose that is?” Takada mused, scratching thoughtfully at his already-rumpled hair. “Back when he was first operating, he went after all sorts of targets -- jewels, artwork, gold, even industrial secrets and designs, you name it -- and he returned less than a quarter of what he stole, probably when he’d been hired to embarrass an item’s owner rather than to obtain the item itself. Since he came back last year, he only steals jewels or things with big jewels set into them--”

“There was that baseball,” somebody muttered.

“--he’s returned almost all of them--”

“Not the baseball.”

“--and over half have had some sort of legend attached to them, like the power to grant wishes or heal wounds, you name it.”

“Never heard of a blessed baseball-- OW! All right, all right, I’ll stop!”

+++Kaitou Kid and Kansai Kid+++
(The Kaitou Kid gets a partner. Guess who!)

“Ahaha. Seriously, Kansai--”

“Do you ever do
anything seriously? And stop doing that, you’re making me dizzy.”

“--how many times have we done this?”

A puzzled frown crossed Kansai’s face, smudged with greasepaint nearly as dark as his clothes. “...Dunno,” he said eventually. “I’ve lost count.”

“Hundreds, if not thousands of times,” he was informed. “And how many times have we plummeted to a screaming, messy, ignominious death?”

“Nearly twice.”

“‘Nearly’ doesn’t count, especially since we were being shot at! Come on, how many times have we actually died?”

Kansai turned and gave his paler twin an absolutely masterful example of the expression known as ‘hairy eyeball’ from behind his smoked-glass monocle. “Kaitou,” he said flatly, “even for you, that’s a dumb question.”

Never,” Kaitou Kid said triumphantly. “No matter how much you hate that hang-glider, you have to admit it’s never killed you.”

“It only has to manage it once,” the Kansai Kid sighed.

+++FMA Zel+++
(All Dogmatix's fault! Zelgadis Greywers ends up in Full Metal Alchemist. This does not make his day.)

Panting, Zelgadis turned to look behind him at the two sorcerors. He just wanted to leave, damn it, couldn’t they give him a break?!

Well, no, probably not. He hadn’t understood anything anyone had yelled at him during his headlong flight, so it was a good bet they couldn’t understand him either. Words had always been his best defence against the occasional misguided mob; nobody expected a Mazoku to put up a white-magic shield spell and calmly discuss the situation when they were attacked, so he’d sometimes been able to settle things without having to blow anybody up. Of course, the blowing-up part could be more personally satisfying... and he didn’t seem to have any other option right now.

+++Conan Rerun+++
(Also Dogmatix's fault. You Know You've Been Watching Too Much Generator Gawl When... you come up with a really odd explanation for why Kid knows so much about Shinichi/Conan.)

“All right, Kudo-kun... you’ve proved who sent us all this lovely evidence to use against the Black Organisation. That just leaves us with one nagging question left.”

“Huh? What’s that?”

“’Why?’ Why did he send this to us? Why not use it himself, or deliver it to the police? If he can find all this--” Ai gestured to the piles of lists, memos, account statements and so forth “--he can certainly find out who can and can’t be trusted to do the right thing with it.”

“Well, that’s--” Shinichi paused, mouth hanging open for a moment, then shut it. “Hmmm. Um. Maybe... no. If... darn. Ah, heck, maybe he delivered it to us just because he knew it’d send me nuts trying to work out why! That’d be just his style!”

There ya go! Have fun, make comments, let me know if you want to see more. Oh, and would anyone be interested in reading this lj if I actually started using it as a regular fic journal? You never know, it might make me write more...
