melredcap: Cute chibi sketch of me by Asuka (Default)

Spent the weekend feeling gloriously craptacular (this may seem like a contradiction in terms, but trust me, once you feel bad enough you start taking a perverse sort of pride in your symptoms).

Felt moderately better so headed in to work this morning.

Got told by my supervisor to buzz off home, they were not interested in catching whatever it was I had thankyouverymuch. Also had one guy walk cheerfully up to me and say "So, you ready to do some work for... um... you look horrible", which I thanked him for. So I phoned my doctor, got told that he had no appointments free until next week, told my symptoms to his nurse and got told to go to the flu clinic at the hospital.

Went to flu clinic. Got told they weren't going to test me for swine flu (because I don't seem to be in any danger of actually keeling over, and the testing centers are swamped), but I am basically quarantined until at least Friday - I'm not allowed to go back to work until I've had 24 hours symptom-free.

Toddled off home. Got phone call from my supervisor as I walked in the door. "Hi, Mel, um, you know [coworker who also was being sent home for being flu-ey today]? His son's tested positive for swine flu..."

So now I need to get myself privately tested so that my nice new workplace knows whether they need to turn the flu alert level up to Neon or just Fuschia. :P

Eek, not fun at all. Please take care of yourself.

Am thinking that telling the flu clinic that you have a confirmed exposure (i.e. kid (+) -> parent (sick now) -> you) might get you tested/treated right away.

miss chatting with you, later.

Nope! I called 'em, they still won't test me. Confirmed exposure doesn't change the fact that even if I do have it, I have a decent immune system and am not likely to need specialist treatment, I just have to stay home and treat symptoms. So my GP's office is currently looking into how to get me tested privately. :)

*hugs*

*sip* ahhhh... thankies hon :)

With perfect timing, someone left a bag of lemons in one of the work kitchens this morning, with "FREE LEMONS" on it, so I have supplies for lemon and honey drinks, num num. ^_^ I will be fine.

I think fuscia. Neon doesn't go with ANYTHING. Not that fuschia is much better

Honestly - no-one makes sure their colour coded alerts are stylish

*get well soon too*

I wanted Rainbow but it was taken. :)

I hope I get well soon too, the cough is settling down but I could do without the whole muscle-aches-and-headache part of this... *pout*

Sounds like you're on the mend, but take care anyway! O.O I hope you can get the test soon! *hugs*

Oh, my doctor's office got back to me this morning... they're not allowed to test me because I don't fit the criteria... which are apparently something like "sick enough to go to hospital", "has a serious underlying medical condition" or "pregnant/young child/old person". The testing centers are THAT swamped. This means I don't get to find out whether I can legitimately make pig jokes, dangit... :P

What in the heck do they have to DO to test, that is so God-awful time-consuming? O.o;
Though I think you are fully justified in making pig jokes if you want, based solely on the symptoms. *nod nod*

Beats me, though I gather it isn't as simple as waving a piece of paper at the sample and seeing if it changes colour. :P I'm fairly sure virus testing has advanced a long way from the days when they had to culture them in live fertilised eggs, though!

oink oink *achoo* *cough*

You could tell them you missed your period, and are not sure if it related or not...... :) That might get you on the list.

I really hope that it is not H1N1 - however, if it is, I have no doubts you will make it run screaming into the night in fear of being cross-bred with a betta to see if the offspring is pretty. :)
