YES! ABOUT TIME! Doin' it right for once!
...Annnnnnd our Federal government is going to launch a High Court challenge to try to wipe it out. I really, really hope they fail. We have a Prime Minister who has said that he doesn't want to support marriage equality because he sees it as slavishly following a fad (he tried to backtrack and explain what he 'reeeeally meant' later, but ha). His own sister is engaged to her girlfriend and he doesn't want them to be able to get married. Imagine the love in that relationship. :-/
Yeah, I didn't vote for him. :P
And to everyone who's been popping up on talk radio whining about how DARE the politicians waste time and money on this notthatthere'sanythingwrongwithbeinggayIlovethegaysbut when their own pet cause needs money and laws and and and... piss off. Seriously. Do you really think there's a limited amount of justice and equality in the world, so you've got to get yours first to make sure it doesn't run out on someone else? Do you really think that this is less important than, to pick a non-random example, a fuss over a respite care centre closing and leaving alternatives that many families regard as not enough? That's an important cause too, but it's not a matter of denying basic rights to a large section of the population. Yes, your cause should get time and money and attention. No, gay marriage should NOT have to wait until every single other problem in the world gets fixed!
Now I'm gonna stop ranting and just take a few minutes to grin, because YAY. :D
