MacSpeech Dictate :)
Apr. 3rd, 2010 12:01 amWell, Ed wanted a report on MacSpeech, so here it is!
This. Program. ROCKS.
Seriously. It is FUN. At present it's not much faster than typing with my hands, but that'll improve as I get practice and the program learns my voice. That's the best thing about it, really - I can teach it new words (i.e., character names and so on) and correct it when my accent confuses it a little. If it repeatedly misunderstands a word I can record my voice to teach it my pronunciation. The longer I use it, the better it gets and the faster I can go. :)
It is a really good idea to at least skim the PDF manual, and read the interesting-sounding bits carefully - there are a bunch of voice commands that make editing etc much easier, and it explains stuff like Why You Don't Combine Dictation With Keyboard Commands (It's A Bad Idea, Really). I am also amused by the bit that explains why you may need to record a new voice profile to use if you have a cold... XD
Ahem. Anyway. To sum up, it's fun, it works at a decent speed, it's fairly easy to get the hang of and using it is giving my hands a much-needed rest. I recommend it (or the Windows equivalent, Dragon Naturally Speaking) for anyone who needs something like it. :)
